Christians & Climate.org

Spring_lake_3The Peacock Report (TPR) would like to express its wholehearted support for the Evangelical Climate Initiative, a movement of Christian groups and leaders opposed to the environmentally destructive policies of the Bush Administration and it congressional supporters -- both Republican and Democrat -- who hide their head in the sand about global warming and other environmental problems.

TPR founder Steve Peacock is a professed Christian who often finds himself standing in opposition to the policy stances of his fellow Christians, many of whom bow in partisan obeisance to political leaders hiding behind the conservative banner. However, the Evangelical Climate Inititiative does not fit that mold, and deserves recognition as followers of Jesus Christ who refuse to be silent on destructive policies and business practices which treat God's Earth as nothing more than a staging ground for unbridled greed, manipulation, and abuse.

"Over the last several years many of us have engaged in study, reflection, and prayer related to the issue of climate change (often called 'global warming')," the group say in the preamble to its Evangelical Call To Action. "For most of us, until recently this has not been treated as a pressing issue or major priority. Indeed, many of us have required considerable convincing before becoming persuaded that climate change is a real problem and that it ought to matter to us as Christians. But now we have seen and heard enough to offer the following moral argument related to the matter of human-induced climate change. We commend the four simple but urgent claims offered in this document to all who will listen, beginning with our brothers and sisters in the Christian community, and urge all to take the appropriate actions that follow from them."

In Jesus' name.... Amen!
